SUMMARY:Developing Effective Urban Tree Regulations on Private Property
DESCRIPTION:Cost: PAW Member – $30 | Non-Member – $40 | Student – FREE\nFor PAW membership info, please click here.\nCM Activity #9289480\nRegister Today\nUrban forests are complex regional, and watershed-scale natural systems located across natural areas, parks, public spaces, private residential and commercial properties, and transportation corridors. As development increases across Washington State, so does the need to protect and maintain our urban and community forests and the valuable ecosystem services they provide. Tree codes are a valuable tool in retaining, replacing, and protecting trees – particularly during development. Because tree codes and ordinances are developed at the local level, these regulations can vary across jurisdictions. To date, little guidance or data exists to inform the tree ordinance update process for local governments. In this webinar, the Facet planning and urban forestry team will introduce the Guide for Developing Effective Urban Tree Regulations on Private Property – which Facet developed with the King County Land and Water Resources Division’s Urban Forestry Program. We will present key elements to include in tree regulations, best practices to consider during the ordinance update process, and discuss various levels of tree codes applicable to cities statewide.\nAbout the Speakers:\nKim Frappier\nSenior Urban Forester/Environmental Planner\nKim is an environmental planner and urban forestry projects manager with a background in forest health, restoration ecology, and environmental planning.
