Job Description:

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $105k – 115k annually. This is primarily an office-based position, but periodic local travel associated with project fieldwork is required.

Floyd|Snider is looking to add a senior environmental planner to our team. The primary role will be to manage projects and project teams to develop comprehensive permit applications and obtain environmental permits and approvals for our projects.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, collaborating with engineers and technical experts to develop strategic project documents, while communicating directly with clients to ensure success in all phases of work. They will also work with the regulatory agencies, beginning early in project design to confirm the regulatory process, potential environmental impacts and associated risks, and unique requirements for the project. The scope of this position’s portfolio and external contact will be much broader than one might find at a larger firm.

The ideal candidate is adept at providing their unique contribution to each project they touch. They are skilled at managing people and developing scopes, schedules, budgets, and defensible permit applications. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Guide regulatory negotiations and coordinate with project engineers
  • Manage ongoing environmental permitting projects, ensuring that document preparation is consistent with environmental regulations and tailored to the project proposal
  • Interact with clients, agency representatives, and consultants across multiple projects
  • Ask probing questions and synthesize complex information to understand the project and its context, using this information to develop a strategic permitting approach
  • Review details in dense materials and complex regulations in order to complete a diverse range of projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in environmental science, planning, policy, or related field
  • 10+ years of environmental planning, ideally in the Pacific Northwest
  • Ability to lead document production for a range of environmental permitting projects
  • Demonstrated experience with federal, state, and local permitting, including strong familiarity with the following:
    • SEPA and NEPA documentation
    • Joint Aquatic Resources Permit Applications, specific experience with Clean Water Act Section 404/401
    • Shoreline Master Program consistency analyses
    • Comprehensive land use permit applications 
    • Endangered Species Act and Section 106 documents
